About DOCX to PDF
DOCX is the modern Word format: a ZIP of XML files that describes text, styles and pictures. It is editable, which is exactly what you do not want when sending a contract, an invoice or a thesis. Converting a DOCX to PDF gives you a fixed, read-only copy that opens on any phone, tablet or computer without Word installed.
Converting a DOCX file
Steps
- Drop your
.docxfile onto the page, or choose it with the button. The limit is one file of up to 25 MB. - Press Convert to PDF and wait a few seconds.
- Download the PDF. Your original file is unchanged.
Where the conversion happens
DOCX layout rules are far too complex to reproduce in a browser, so this page sends the file to our own server in the EU, where LibreOffice renders it. The file lives only in memory for the duration of the request. The PDF is streamed back to you and both are discarded immediately. We never store, inspect or share your documents, and file names are not logged. Details are in the privacy policy.
DOCX features and how they convert
- Styles and themes: paragraph and character styles are rendered as defined in the document.
- Tables: borders, shading and merged cells are kept.
- Images: inline and floating images keep their wrapping and position.
- Footnotes, endnotes and a table of contents: converted as they appear; refresh the table of contents in Word first if page numbers changed.
- Comments and tracked changes: rendered according to the view saved in the file. Accept changes and delete comments for a clean PDF.
- Macros: ignored. Macro-enabled
.docmfiles are not accepted.
When the output differs from Word
Font substitution is the usual cause. Word may use a font that only exists on your computer; the server replaces it with the closest metric-compatible face, which can move a line break. Choosing widely available fonts, or embedding fonts when saving in Word, keeps the PDF identical.
