About the uppercase converter
This page turns any text into UPPER CASE in your browser. Paste a sentence, a list, a block of code or a whole document, and every letter comes out as a capital as you type. Accented letters are handled properly, so école becomes ÉCOLE, and the German letter ß becomes SS. Digits, punctuation, spaces and line breaks are left exactly as they were. The result is shown next to your input with a character count, and one press of Copy puts it on your clipboard.
How to convert text to uppercase
Steps
- Type or paste your text into the Input box.
- UPPER CASE is already selected under Case, so the capitals appear in Output at once.
- Press Copy to copy the result, or Clear to start again with new text.
Privacy
The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your text is never sent to our servers, and nothing is kept once you close the tab.
What uppercase does to your text
Hello WorldbecomesHELLO WORLD, andhELLObecomesHELLO.straßebecomesSTRASSE. The single letterßhas no capital form in everyday German spelling, so it is written as two letters, which means the output can be longer than the input.- Characters that have no capital form are not touched. That includes digits, punctuation, emoji and scripts such as Chinese or Japanese, which have no upper and lower case at all.
- Case rules come from your browser's language settings. In a browser set to Turkish,
ibecomesİwith a dot, which is correct Turkish but surprising elsewhere.
When to use all capitals
Capitals are the right choice for a few jobs: SQL keywords written in the traditional style, labels and warnings on signs and forms, abbreviations and stock tickers, headings in a document template that asks for them, and the names of constants in code. For constants, remember that a name such as MAX_RETRY_COUNT also needs underscores between the words. Choose CONSTANT_CASE on the full text case converter to get HELLO_BIG_WORLD from Hello big world in one step, instead of capitalising and then replacing spaces by hand.
Avoid long passages in capitals. Words lose the shapes that help us recognise them, so all-caps paragraphs are slower to read, and in online writing they are commonly taken as shouting. If you received text that is entirely in capitals and want it to read normally, you need the opposite conversion: Sentence case lowercases it and capitalises only the start of each sentence, and Title Case suits headings.
Uppercase, capitalise and title case
These three terms are often mixed up. Uppercase changes every letter. Capitalising usually means changing only the first letter of a word. Title Case capitalises most words in a heading but leaves small words such as of and the in lower case. This page does the first only. If you want the first letter of each word capitalised, Title Case on the main tool is the closest match, although it lowercases the rest of each word and keeps small words as they are unless you edit the list.

The text case converter has eleven more cases, including lower case, camelCase and snake_case. If your capitals came from a pasted document with odd spacing, clean it with the Whitespace Remover first. To make a lowercase, hyphenated web address out of a heading instead, use the Slug Generator.
Frequently asked questions
Why does ß turn into SS when I convert to uppercase?
Standard German spelling has no everyday capital form of ß, so Unicode case mapping writes it as the two letters SS. That is why straße becomes STRASSE and the output can contain more characters than the input. Converting back to lower case gives strasse, not straße.
Does converting to uppercase change numbers, punctuation or emoji?
No. Only letters that have a capital form are changed. Digits, punctuation, spaces, emoji and scripts without letter case, such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters, appear in the output exactly as you typed them, and line breaks are kept in the same places.
How do I capitalise only the first letter of each word instead?
Uppercase changes every letter, so use Title Case for that. Open the Title Case converter, which capitalises each word, lowercases the rest of it and keeps small words such as of and the in lower case unless you edit the list. Sentence case capitalises only the start of sentences.
Why does the letter i become İ with a dot in my browser?
Case conversion follows your browser's language setting. Turkish and Azeri distinguish a dotted and a dotless i, so a browser set to one of those languages maps i to İ. Switching the browser or system language to English gives the usual capital I instead.
Is there a limit to how much text I can convert?
The tool sets no limit of its own and converts as you type, so the practical ceiling is your device's memory and how many characters the browser can comfortably keep in a text box. Ordinary documents of many pages convert instantly on a modern phone or computer.
