Pascal to psi Converter
Convert pascals to psi by dividing by 6,894.757. Includes both formulas, a pressure conversion table, reference values for tyres and scuba tanks, and the psig/psia difference.
Pascals to psi
Formula
To convert a pressure in pascals to pounds per square inch, divide by 6,894.757. To go the other way, multiply.
One pascal is 0.000145037744 psi, so a pascal is a very small unit of pressure — a single pascal is roughly the pressure a sheet of paper exerts lying flat on a table. Pressures you meet in daily life are usually quoted in kilopascals (kPa) or bars instead.
Worked example
Convert 200,000 Pa (a typical car tyre pressure) to psi:
And in reverse, a 32 psi tyre:

Reference pressures
- Standard atmosphere — 101,325 Pa = 14.6959 psi. This is sea-level air pressure by definition.
- Car tyre — 200,000–250,000 Pa = 29–36 psi.
- Bicycle road tyre — 620,000–830,000 Pa = 90–120 psi.
- Mains water supply — 300,000–500,000 Pa = 44–73 psi.
- Espresso machine — 900,000 Pa = 131 psi, the classic "9 bar" extraction pressure.
- Scuba tank, full — 20,000,000 Pa = 2,900 psi.
What is a pascal?
The pascal (Pa) is the SI unit of pressure: one newton of force spread over one square metre, or . It is named after Blaise Pascal and is the unit used in science, engineering and most weather reporting outside the United States. Because it is small, it almost always appears with a prefix: 1 kPa = 1,000 Pa, and 1 bar = 100,000 Pa exactly.
What is psi?
Psi stands for pounds per square inch — the force in pounds-force spread over one square inch. It is the customary pressure unit in the United States, and it survives worldwide in tyre pressures, compressed-air equipment and plumbing. One psi is defined through exact base units: one pound-force is 4.448222 N and one square inch is 0.00064516 m², which gives 6,894.757 Pa.
You will also see psig and psia. Psig is gauge pressure, measured relative to the surrounding air; psia is absolute pressure, measured from a vacuum. A tyre gauge reads psig, so a tyre at 32 psig holds about 46.7 psia.
FAQ
How many psi is 1 pascal? 0.000145037744 psi. Pascals are far smaller than psi, so the number shrinks sharply.
How many pascals is 1 psi? 6,894.757 Pa, or about 6.895 kPa.
What is 1 bar in psi? A bar is 100,000 Pa, which is 14.5038 psi.
What is atmospheric pressure in psi? Standard atmosphere is 101,325 Pa, or 14.6959 psi — commonly rounded to 14.7 psi.
Why is the factor 6,894.757 and not a round number? Because the pascal comes from metric base units and psi from imperial ones. The pound-force and the inch are each defined exactly in SI terms, so the ratio between the two pressure units is an exact but untidy number.
