How to convert square metres to square feet

Square units follow from linear ones by squaring. The international foot is exactly 0.3048 m, so one square foot is exactly 0.09290304 m², and one square metre is 10.76391 sq ft.

What is a square metre?

A square metre is the area of a square one metre on each side. It is the SI derived unit for area and the base this tool converts through. Land measures sit on top of it by convention rather than by powers of ten: the hectare is 10,000 m², and the acre is a historic unit — the area one ox team could plough in a day — later fixed at exactly 4,840 square yards.
