Subtract from a date

Formula

Add negative days, months, or years to the starting date.

textresultDate=textstartDate+textduration\\text{resultDate} = \\text{startDate} + \\text{duration}

Where duration is expressed as negative values for subtraction.

Worked example

Subtract 45 days from 15 August 2025:

  1. Start with 15 August 2025
  2. Subtract 45 days
  3. August has 31 days, so go back to 1 August = 14 days
  4. Remaining 31 days takes us to 1 July
  5. Result: 1 July 2025

And subtract 3 months from 15 August 2025:

  1. Start with 15 August 2025
  2. Go back one month: 15 July 2025
  3. Go back another month: 15 June 2025
  4. Go back the third month: 15 May 2025
  5. Result: 15 May 2025

How to use

  1. Enter the starting date
  2. Enter the number of days, months, and years to subtract
  3. Click "Calculate" to see the result

Month-end edge cases

When subtracting months from a date like 31 January, the result for February would be adjusted to the last day of February (28 or 29). This ensures the calculation always returns a valid date.
