Formula
A year is a leap year if:
- It is divisible by 4, AND
- If it is divisible by 100, it must also be divisible by 400

2025: Not divisible by 4 → Not a leap year
2000: Divisible by 4, 100, and 400 → Leap year
1900: Divisible by 4 and 100, but not by 400 → Not a leap year

Why leap years?
The Earth takes approximately 365.2422 days to orbit the Sun. Without leap years, our calendar would drift by about 6 hours each year, causing seasons to shift over centuries. Adding an extra day every 4 years corrects most of this drift, but the century rule (divisible by 100 but not 400) fine-tunes it.
