Formula

Convert each time unit to seconds, sum them, then convert back to hours:minutes:seconds.

texttotalSeconds=(texthourstimes3600)+(textminutestimes60)+textseconds\\text{totalSeconds} = (\\text{hours} \\times 3600) + (\\text{minutes} \\times 60) + \\text{seconds}

Worked example

Convert 2 hours, 45 minutes, 30 seconds to total seconds:

(2times3600)+(45times60)+30=7200+2700+30=9930textseconds(2 \\times 3600) + (45 \\times 60) + 30 = 7200 + 2700 + 30 = 9930 \\text{ seconds}

Convert 9930 seconds back:

  • Hours: lfloor9930div3600rfloor=2\\lfloor 9930 \\div 3600 \\rfloor = 2 hours
  • Remaining: 9930−(2times3600)=27309930 - (2 \\times 3600) = 2730 seconds
  • Minutes: lfloor2730div60rfloor=45\\lfloor 2730 \\div 60 \\rfloor = 45 minutes
  • Seconds: 2730−(45times60)=302730 - (45 \\times 60) = 30 seconds
  • Result: 2:45:30
